Cute Flip Flops
If you are like me, you LOVE the cute flip flops but are unwilling to pay up to $20.00 or more for flips flops-come on! I don’t mind paying good money for quality shoes, but let’s face it, buying a foam shoe for $20.00 or more is okay if you are Oprah or Jen Aniston, but I refuse to pay money for foam!!
Theses flip flops cost me $2.98 at WalMart and I decorated them myself in about ten minutes with a hot glue gun, wedding flowers that were on clearance and gems from Hobby Lobby, all things I already had for my crafts.
I have to say, I think they turned out great! I can’t wait to wear them. Just think how many ways you could decorate them, with all gems, all flowers, let your mind go! When at your favorite store, look at their flip flops and think how you could make them yourself!
Whitney Houston Rest in Peace.
I was very saddened to learn of Whitney Houston passing away. In my opinion, she had one of the greatest voices. She completely blew away Madonna, Brittney, and all of the other pop signers. I am not putting down Madonna or Brittney, I like them also, but in my humble opinion, her Gospel influence along with her range was nothing short of amazing. Along with her talent was her immense beauty. I was a fan from the beginning.
My sincerest condolences for her ex-husband, daughter, family, friends, fans and any one else her life has touched.
We will miss you Whitney.
I had been thinking and researching about a ereaders for awhile and one day before Christmas I was shopping in the city. I went to Best Buy, Staples. Barnes and Noble, Target, etc. and drove myself nuts! I went to every store twice! I was reading comparison’s on my smartphone.
All of the stores I went to (except for Barnes & Noble of course!) said the Kindle Fire.
I have to say I LOVE my Kindle Fire! I have found so many free good books that I probably would have never read otherwise! 5 book sets for 99 cents! Every day Amazon gives away a book for 99 cents and a free app. I thought the sales guy was nuts when he said they had books for $3.99 or less but he was right! I have so many books on my Kindle that I doubt I will have time to even use the Library ebooks! They update the 100 free books pretty regularly that I can tell, so check often!
I used to go to the Library and borrow up to 5 books a week and read through them. Then, I found out through my library, I could download free audiobooks for my Ipod Touch and now I can also download ebooks to my Kindle. I will never give up my audiobooks on my ipod, though, I listen to audiobooks when I drive or ride with my husband. It sure makes driving fun and long trips fly by!
What do you have or what do you like best?
I am sorry I disappeared for awhile. Life, etc., just got in the way and I just didn’t have much to share or had anything that anyone would find interesting!
I will try and find more interesting things!
Want to jazz up your boring cupcakes? I wanted to bring cupcakes to my husbands coworkers, but I wanted them to be just as pretty as they were good.
I used a craft punch and make pretty spring butterflies and hot glued them randomly onto flat sticks I got at WalMart in the craft isle. Everyone loved them and it was so easy to do! You could use any type of punch and colors for different occasions. In fact, I am thinking of doing something like that again soon as using fall colors. A snowflake punch would be great for a winter occasion!

May, 2, 2011 Osama Bin Laden killed by Seal Team 6
Thank you to Seal Team 6 and all of the military men and women who have fought for our freedom and safety since the attacks and who are continuing to do so. May God protect you and keep you safe.
GOD BLESS AMERICA!
*please note, in doing my research, several sites listed different statistics
Just read a wonderful book about “Seal Team 6″ memoirs of an elite Navy Seal Sniper by Howard E. Wasdin and Stephen Templin.
Howard Wasdin was a Navy Seal Team 6 sniper.
Seal Team 6 by Howard E. Wasdin and Stephen Templin
What an insight to the men that protect us and our country. If there are women Seals, I apologize if I am in error by using the term men. I had never heard much about them until they saved Capt. Richard Phillips after Somali pirates hijacked the Maersk Alabama and just a while ago, the death of Osama Bin Laden.
This isn’t a book just for men. This book goes into the intense training and bravery of the Navy Seals and the dedication of the men to become a Seal. I loved this book and want to personally Thank Howard for his service and those of all the men and the women of our military who protect us and the nation every day.
I encourage you to read Howard’s book and realize the years and years of very difficult training under the worst conditions they endure so they can keep America and us free. I could not put this book down.
Go out an buy a copy today!
I am very sorry there is no post this week. Work has been crazzzy and I haven’t felt 100%. Come back next week!
Ways to extend your cell phone’s battery life from PC World:
- Dim the screen: Turn your screen’s brightness down to the the lowest setting that you can tolerate. Even if you ignore the next 5 tips, try this one; it will extend your battery life dramatically.
- Set screen timeouts to kick in as quickly as possible: To adjust how long your screen stays lit after receiving input, change the appropriate entry in your phone’s display settings menu. (I set mine at 30 seconds).
- Turn off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi when they’re not in use: Both of these features are serious power suckers.
- Go easy on power-hungry GPS: Many apps access your phone’s GPS to provide services like finding nearby restaurants. Revvoke access to your phone’s GPS (or deny permission at installation time) for all apps except ones that wouldn’t be worthwhile without it. Kill extraneous app and nonessential app notifications.
- Don’t use vibrate: All that rockin’ and rollin’ takes a lot of juice.
- Buy an extended battery: It will swell your phones waifish profile, but it could also double the time between charges. Search online for “extended battery” for your make of phone.

When you are in a rush and have only a few ingredients, I have a nice and very good recipie.
- Taco seasoning
Cheese (liquid type)
Brown hamburger and taco seasoning then layer in a casserole dish using chips then cheese then hamburger. Keep layering this way until your casserole dish is full. Cover and place in oven til hot.
Garnish with sour cream, onions, tomatoes, lettuce, jalapenos or any other topping you prefer.
That’s it!! How fast any easy can that be? Now, you can spend less time in the kitchen and do other things you enjoy.
If you like any of my recipies, please let me know!
I am hopelessly organized! I needed a desktop calendar to keep track of all my appointments, bills and things I need to do. I did a Google search and found VueMinder Calendar. They have several paid versions, but they also have a free (Download Lite) version that has everything you need! You can find it here. It looks complicated, but it really isn’t at all.
VueMinder Lite Free Calendar program
I have to say in about an hour, I had everything set up and running and I love it! You can organize appointments by categories such as Birthdays, etc. Choose which color text you want all birthdays to be and choose the color for that category, and enter the birthday on the calendar. You then right click and choose category-birthday and it will appear in the color you had chosen for birthday events. You can set pop up reminders, sound reminders, set up a monthly or yearly recurrence such as birthdays, etc. You can set a reminder from 1 minute to a year in advance!
I used Outlook and I have to say that this calendar is awesome and just as good! They have a very easy to understand help documentation here.
It also shows a small calendar on your desktop if you wish. You can have it large or small. I am sure there are many more options and customization I can do, but for the hour I spent, I have to say I have most everything exactly the way I like it.
It has many, many more features, so if you need to keep track of your schedule, bills, appointments, I highly recommend this program!
I am in a storage sharing mood!!!
I bought a great wall jewelry box from JC Penny’s for around $50.00 several years ago:
Jewely box from JC Penny
I loved this and it worked great and still use it, but women HAVE to buy more! The fad now is also larger, chunkier necklaces. What to do with those?? If I piled all of them in the wall jewelry box, the door wouldn’t close!
I came across a great tip on the internet (how could we ever do without!!!) on a jewelry/necklace idea:
Men's 3 row slack hanger for jewelry storage
Using a men’s 3 row slack hanger was the perfect solution for me! They sell for around $9.99 at Target and allow you to hang chunky, long, wide, any type of necklace with ease. The hangers have a velvet outer edge, so the jewelry stays in place.
My craft area is a very small bedroom, and I have organized it a thousand times in the last few months! I want to continue to share what storage ideas are working for me in my small room.
I had 2 rolling carts, but I was continuously moving them and my chair was in the way and I was getting so upset! I took out all of my winter clothes and put them in plastic bins in the basement. I took the closet space and used it for more of my storage:
Please ignore the ugly shag carpet!!! Now I am not banging my chair into everything and I still have my clothes stored away.
I went to Michael’s the other day, and got a very pretty storage hanger for $11.00 or so on sale. The regular price was $16.99. I may have found one at Walmart for shoes or so, but this one is so pretty! I don’t buy a lot of craft stamps, but I have a few and needed more room (my theme song!). It works perfect for the few stamps I have:
If I want, I can move it into the closet and hang it on the closet rod.
If you have left me a comment, I am working on getting it fixed. For some reason, comments are not showing up. Very frustrating!!!
Please be patient with me as I am trying everything I know to fix it.
What do you do with all your rolls of ribbon?
I have struggled with this myself! The first storage idea I read on the web was to take an inexpensive paper towel holder and use it for ribbons. I took a metal paper towel holder and my husband took a dremel tool and modified it for me by cutting one side of the post off:
That worked for a while, until as we all do, we buy more ribbon! I have a very small craft room/office, so space is a huge issue for me. My next idea was to take a 12×12 paper storage box from Michaels, and use it to store my ribbon:
- Michaels 12×12 Paper box for ribbon storage
This worked very well because when you open the box and set it down to use, you can see all your ribbon very well and it stored 4 rows of ribbon easily. The boxes are 40%-50% off very often, so wait until they have a sale or you have a 40% or larger coupon or sale. They hold approximately 48 rolls of ribbon. I would still be using this system if I hadn’t run across some ribbon storage boxes in the sewing department of Hobby Lobby:
Hobby Lobby ribbon storage box
These boxes were $7.99 each, which I thought was a fair price. There is clear material on the front of the boxes allowing you to easily see the ribbon and it has a slit for the ribbon to slide out the front of the boxes for easy use. I don’t use the slit personally, so the ribbon doesn’t get dusty hanging out the box. I hate dust LOL. I LOVE these boxes! They hold approximately 16 rolls of ribbon and you can see instantly if you have the ribbon you want or need for a project.
What do you think? Do you have any great storage ideas you want to share?
Happy 4th of July
I would like to wish everyone a Happy and Safe 4th of July weekend! Please stay safe!
The Star Spangled Banner
O say, can you see, by the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming;
And the rockets’ red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;
O say, does that Star-Spangled Banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
On that shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe’s haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o’er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, now conceals, now discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam–
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream;
‘Tis the Star-Spangled Banner; O long may it wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
And where are the foes who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps’ pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave;
And the Star-Spangled Banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
O thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved homes and the war desolation;
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav’n-rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, for our cause it is just,
And this be our motto, “In God is our trust”;
And the Star-Spangled Banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
Francis Scott Key
Francis Scott Key (1780-1843), a native of Maryland, was a lawyer and poet. His patriotic poem, “The Star-Spangled Banner,” which has become a national song, made him famous.
The incidents referred to in this poem occurred during the War of 1812. In August, 1814, a strong force of British entered Washington and burned the Capitol, the White House, and many other public buildings. On September 13, the British admiral moved his fleet into position to attack Fort McHenry, near Baltimore. The bombardment of the fort lasted all night, but the fort was so bravely defended that the flag was still floating over it when morning came.
Just before the bombardment began, Francis Scott Key was sent to the admiral’s frigate to arrange for an exchange of prisoners, and was told to wait until the bombardment was over. All night he watched the fort, and by the first rays of morning light he saw he Stars and Stripes still waving. Then, in his joy and pride, he wrote the stirring words of the song which is now known and loved by all Americans–”The Star-Spangled Banner.”
I cannot live without my Ipod Touch!
Listening to music is the greatest, but I use mine for much, much more!
I listen to audio books when I am getting ready for work in the morning, at lunch, in the evening between tv commercials, etc! I check my emails, weather, news, and of course my music! When traveling to my doctor appointment 1 1/2 hours away, whichever audio book I am listening to at the time makes the trip go by in a flash!
The note feature is my best friend. I jot down everything I need the next time I have to go to the store and I never forget what I need! I have all sorts of lists: questions to ask my doctor, books I want to read and everything else.
If I am at home sick, I can easily check email, the news or anything without having to get up, launch my laptop and wait for it to boot up. As I mentioned earlier, audio books are fantastic when you aren’t feeling well as you do not have to sit up, hold a book and it helps to distract you: I just lay down with it near me and listen! No more sore back or tired hands.
Stores like Walmart, Target and other similar stores sell little speakers for $10.00 that you just plug into if you don’t want to use the outside speaker or headphones. They are also quiet enough to use at work so you don’t disturb other people or when you are on the phone.
If I am in a store and see something that gives me an idea, I just take a quick snapshot of it. When we went looking at furniture, I took quick shots of the sofas we liked for later reference.
The games and apps are also fun for time while waiting for an appointment, when someone you are meeting are late, there is never a dull or boring moment while waiting.
The Ipod Touch has internet capabilities, so why spend more on a cell phone to get internet when you already have it on your Ipod? The only difference is that on the Ipod touch, you won’t have wireless internet everywhere, but more and more places are offering free wireless, so for me it isn’t a problem.
Do you have an Ipod Touch? What is the feature you use most?

I would like to wish everyone a safe and fun Memorial Day weekend.
Please keep in mind the reason for Memorial Day-remembering the sacrifices of all our military men, women and their families.
Freedom is Not Free
I watched the flag pass by one day.
It fluttered in the breeze.
A young Marine saluted it,
and then he stood at ease.
I looked at him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud,
He’d stand out in any crowd.
I thought how many men like him
Had fallen through the years.
How many died on foreign soil?
How many mothers’ tears?
How many pilots’ planes shot down?
How many died at sea?
How many foxholes were soldiers’ graves?
No, freedom isn’t free.
I heard the sound of TAPS one night,
When everything was still
I listened to the bugler play
And felt a sudden chill.
I wondered just how many times
That TAPS had meant “Amen,”
When a flag had draped a coffin
Of a brother or a friend.
I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and husbands
With interrupted lives.
I thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea
Of unmarked graves in Arlington.
No, freedom isn’t free.

I have been spending every free moment for months trying to get my online store up and running.
I am a fairly advanced computer user, but I have to say trying to figure out which shopping cart program to use and understand has been quite a task! First I tried Zen Cart for a few months, but I didn’t like how the pictures uploaded and the sizes, and after several months, I thought it was just too much work learning and running it-I needed an easier and faster program.
I tried wp-wcommerce, but had a hard time finding tutorials on how to set up the settings. (Now, I can find a million of them since I have chosen a different shopping cart!) LOL
I was going to use paypal alone, but I wanted something a little better and different. I had the Crafty Cart theme installed and had it looking the way I wanted, but one area (editing the php files) gave me problems, and when I tried to fix it (I am a novice at php) and I got more errors than I cared for. So, that is abandoned for now also!
I have finally settled on wp simple paypal plugin, and so far it is fitting my needs. Remember, I said so far! LOL
Setting up my website and blog was a breeze. Then I hit the roadblock of shopping carts. It has taken me away from what I really love…designing!
I do have information and a gallery of some of my products (click on store in the menu) if you would like to take a look. If you see something you are curious about, email or phone me!
